Australian Touring Car legend John Bowe previews the Wilson Security Sandown 500 thanks to Speedcafe.com’s Platinum Partner, Dunlop.
The Wilson Security Sandown 500, the opening leg of the three-race Pirtek Enduro Cup this weekend, is one of my favourite races.
It has an awesome history and was one if the races I most enjoyed winning with the great Dick Johnson in 1994 and 1995.
There will be quite simple tyre strategies that will be rolled out this weekend.
Each car will be allocated six sets of the durable Dunlop Sport Maxx control tyre.
So there shouldn’t be any real concern with a tyre shortage.
Suffice to say any team that has a fresh set to roll the dice with 20 laps or so to go could look very good.
The Sandown track is very tired in places and the tyre degradation is quite high.
Strategy remains a very important part in this event.
So, as always, there’s lots of pressure on the engineers and the boys and girls in pit lane.
