Erebus Motorsport has repaired Will Brown’s Holden ZB Commodore after an all-night effort which received the support of several Supercars teams.
Brown crashed during Friday morning’s first practice session at the Repco Mount Panorama 500.
While the 22-year-old was quick early on with the third fastest time before the incident, he had been complaining about understeer over the top of The Mountain.
An early turn in at The Dipper resulted in Brown clipping the inside wall on his left, firing him into the outside wall on his right.
The #9 Erebus WD-40 Racing entry suffered significant damage, requiring a new right front corner.
“It was fairly major,” Erebus Motorsport boss Barry Ryan told Speedcafe.com.
“The front chassis rail was twisted. We cut all the bars out of the front right corner. It’s good now. It’s fixed and ready to go. We’re just doing a final set-up and will be ready for qualifying.
“It was 04:30 (local time) when we left here. We went home, some had an hour’s sleep, some had a shower and have come back. It’s a good effort.
“We’ll get the wheels pointing in the right direction and be ready to roll out. Hopefully it’ll be fast straight away.
“Credit to the guys, they had a crack. Got it fixed.”
The team was aided by several of its rivals, who lent the team componentry.
Local signwriter Shane’s Signs also supported the team’s repair, re-stickering the car at 01:30 (local time).
“Team 18 lent us some stuff, Walkinshaw lent us some stuff, Tickford lent us some stuff, Triple Eight offered stuff, so everybody pretty much was ready to chip in,” said Ryan.
In an effort to speed-up Brown’s recovery, the team is set to adopt Brodie Kostecki’s set-up for the morning’s qualifying.
Ryan is sure Brown has lost no confidence.
“Will had the pace until that happened, so it should be good,” he said.
“I don’t think he’s lost any confidence. It wasn’t a crash where he didn’t know what happened, he just made an error.
“I don’t think he’s going to go out there and second guess himself. He’ll be straight back on the mark. He’ll be alright.”
Qualifying at the Repco Mount Panorama 500 gets underway at 09:05 local time/AEDT.
