Steve Owen says that every driver in the V8 Supercars field would want to drive for Triple Eight Race Engineering – especially if the champion team increases its fleet from two to four cars next year.
As reported by Speedcafe.com, Triple Eight boss Roland Dane and Paul Morris Motorsport are currently negotiating a potential alliance that would see them become a four-car super team.
Owen drove for Triple Eight’s TeamVodafone squad last year, finishing second at Bathurst with Jamie Whincup. He currently drives the VIP Petfoods-backed PMM Commodore, who has a technical alliance with T8. He has a one-year drive deal.
With four top 10 results so far this year and an upward form turn, Owen says he wants to retain a seat in the championship – preferably with Dane’s potential super squad.
“Not everyone will admit it, but I reckon all 28 blokes out there would put it on top of their list to do drive for Roland,” Owen told Speedcafe.com.
“If that opportunity came up, I’d be rapt and it would be perfect. There’s a lot of things that have to fall in place, and you never know what is going to happen.
“I’ll just do the best I can, and cross all the bridges as we get to them.”
While a spot in an all-conquering T8 Commodore is his first choice, Owen is keen to ensure his results keep flowing in the second half of the year to be in with a chance to keep a place in the championship.
“If the top 10 results keep coming, I don’t see any reason why I can’t stay in,” he said.
“It would be a shame to get the end of the year, build this momentum that we’ve created, and then for it to go off in different directions.
“There are plenty of teams out there who need someone to run in the top 10, race in race out. I figure that if I can consistently do that, I will I’ll be fine.”

The next round of the V8 Supercars Championship will be held at Queensland Raceway for the Coates Hire 300 on August 19-21.
