Erebus Motorsport will run a revised livery on its Tim Slade-driven Mercedes this weekend in honour of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.
The move follows last month's efforts of the 70,000 strong service to battle fires in the Blue Mountains and Hunter regions of New South Wales.
Major sponsor of the #47 entry, Heavy Haulage Australia, has removed its branding from the car an event early as part of the initiative.
Slade and #47 Racing Entitlements Contract holder James Rosenberg will also leave Erebus after the Sydney 500, bound for Walkinshaw Racing.
The team is yet to announce any major partners for its two-car operation in 2014, although it did confirm the continuation of minor backer Beko on Monday.
Erebus owner Betty Klimenko expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the RFS volunteers upon launching the revised livery.
“The Australian way is to get in and help a mate and nothing typifies that more than the Rural Fire Service,” she said.
“Having the logos on one of our cars is a real honour. The aim is to thank the RFS not only for what they have done, but what they will continue to do for residents who have bush fire risk as part of their lives.
“A lot of people see the V8 drivers as heroes, but we need to admire the RFS and its massive volunteer force each and every summer.
“I trust our effort in showing support draws the much needed focus on those people.”
V8 Supercars has cited time constraints for the move, which will see compulsory pitstops used instead.
