Australian racer Jordan Oon endured a tough weekend at Brands Hatch in England for the latest round of the European F3 Open.
After being encouraged by his pace in the free practice session, Oon struggled in Saturday’s wet weather qualifying session, qualifying fifth in class. With the track staying damp for the race, Oon kept his cool and made up one position, finishing fourth.
The weather improved for Sunday’s running, but Oon and his Team West-Tec squad struggled to find a good qualifying set-up, setting the eighth fastest time. Once again he managed to move forward a position in the race, but he did so having to fight a car with poor balance, with hefty doses of both understeer and oversteer challenging Oon at different stages of the race.
“It was a frustrating weekend,” Oon said.
“We had very disappointing pace the entire time, and never got to grips with the car set-up enough to push for podium positions, which was our aim.
“On a positive note, it is only three days until the next race meet gets underway, where I’m confident we can turn things around.”
Oon is now fourth in the ‘Cup’ standings, but will have the chance to move back into the top three when the series resumes at Paul Ricard in France next weekend.
