Kiwi racing legend Inky Tulloch is in a critical condition following a crash during a Clubman Saloon race at Teretonga on Sunday.
According to local reports, Tulloch was transported by ambulance to Southland Hospital after his Honda Integra hit a tyre wall.
Well known on both sides of the Tasman, the 65-year-old Tulloch is a successful businessman, racer and politician.
His diverse racing exploits have included stints in Super Trucks and production cars in Australia and NZ, as well as a spell in NZ V8s.
Tulloch’s most recent success came last weekend at Hampton Downs, where he won a 3 Hour New Zealand Endurance title alongside John McIntyre aboard his Camaro GT3.
In a statement, MotorSport New Zealand CEO Brian Budd says the New Zealand motorsport community will be thinking of Tulloch, who resides in Gore in Southland.
“We are all thinking of Inky and his family at this time,” said Budd. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Budd added that Tulloch’s accident will be investigated by the governing body.
“As with any incident of this nature, MotorSport New Zealand will undertake a full investigation into the crash, a process which starts with an accident report from Teretonga Park officials,” he added.
“We will quickly determine if any further investigation and/or action is needed.”
