In the past, Darren and Garry have on occasion picked out important grassroots events. They previewed the Leyburn Sprints and the Improved Production Nationals last year and will look to doing those and others again. But this week they are going to preview the Winton Festival of Speed which is coming up on July 23 to 26.
It is a very much a tin tip centric event with big fields of Group N Historic Touring Cars split between under and over two litre cars. Memories will come flooding back for many with the Group C and A Heritage Touring Cars that will also have a twilight race.
Sports Car enthusiasts have not been forgotten with over 40 Group S Production Sports Cars up to 1974 racing. There will also be Porsche 944s in their one-make series plus more exotic ones racing in the inaugural Fitzy Cup, in memory of the late Peter Fitzgerald.
The boys will cover the other categories as well and will include Auscars, BMW E30s, HQ Holdens and MG Racing. Touring Car Legends will be supplement by the latest craze at Historics, the Touring Car Tributes. Devotees have built replicas of the great touring cars of the past, many as good or not better than the originals.
It is also worth catching up on the other entertaining 85 Grassroots Racing Podcasts. There have been many of the big names as well as those who have battled in the sport. They discuss where it started for them and their progression through their careers.
