Walkinshaw endurance driver Jack Perkins will make another return to the Dunlop Series as lead driver for the newly aligned Dragon/Image team.
Perkins will take charge of the Commodore he shared with Scott McLaughlin in the Pirtek Enduro Cup in 2013.
It will be the 30-year-old’s first full campaign in the feeder Supercars category since he ran the Eggleston Motorsport Commodore, finishing fourth in the 2013 Championship behind Dale Wood.
The Dragon/Image outfit will run two Car of the Future chassis but are yet to name the driver for the GRM-VF15 machine.
“I’m really excited to be back in the Dunlop Series this year, and it will be great to get back in the GRM car I shared with Scotty McLaughlin in 2013.” Jack Perkins said, who will take command of the GRM-VF14 chassis.
Team owners Terry Wyhoon (Image Racing) & Tony Klein (Dragon Motor Racing) spent the past nine months formulating the plans for this season and are confident that they will see success in the series this year.
“When I heard there was an opportunity to step back into the Fujitsu Car #33 in 2017 I immediately rang Terry and asked him how can I make this happen,” Perkins said.
“Scotty and I logged over 10,000kms testing the Prototype Cars of The Future, ended up great mates, and then we got to drive together in the Fujitsu Car#33 in 2013.”
“Tony Klein and Terry Wyhoon have put together a great team for this season and I was super keen to be a part of it.”
The team is angling to be positioned outside the Walkinshaw garage at Dunlop rounds.
It is Dragon’s fourth year with Supercars involvement.
“2017 seems to be the year when everything is coming together for us,” Klein said.
Wyhoon said the new operation is on track for the opening round of the Dunlop Series on the undercard at the Clipsal 500, Adelaide, from March 2-5.
“We are 100percent on track for the opening Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide and looking forward to the entire season,” Wyhoon said.
