Garry Jacobson will drive in a Supercars Championship practice session for the first time tomorrow as he continues to pursue a Bathurst seat.
Currently second in the Dunlop Series standings for Prodrive, Jacobson received a late call-up to steer Chaz Mostert’s Supercheap Ford in the 30 minute co-driver session.
Mostert’s co-driver Steve Owen is unavailable as he is travelling to the 24 Hours of Spa, where he will race Roger Lago’s Lamborghini next weekend.
“I got a phone call from Tim (Edwards, Prodrive team principal) yesterday saying there was an opportunity to get some laps in the Supercheap Auto car,” Jacobson told Speedcafe.com.
“It’s quite exciting to have my first opportunity to run in a co-driver session.
“It’ll just be about getting settled into a car that I haven’t been in before.
“Any miles for me is good because only having seven Dunlop Series rounds isn’t a lot.”
While Dunlop Series team-mate Jack Le Brocq scored the seat at Prodrive alongside Cameron Waters for the Pirtek Enduro Cup, Jacobson remains without a ride for the big races.
With the possibility of Eggleston Motorsport running a Bathurst wildcard and uncertainty remaining over the final line-ups at Erebus and Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport, Jacobson remains hopeful of finding a drive.
“I’m still looking and have my hand up for an opportunity,” said Jacobson, who spent two years in Eggleston’s Dunlop Series line-up before joining Prodrive this year.
“I definitely feel that my results this year show that I’ve got the speed and consistency to do a good job.
“I haven’t been in any incidents all year and have been banking good points, which is what all co-drivers should be expected to do.
“I’m biding my time and hoping I can get an opportunity.”
Another without an Enduro Cup seat, Taz Douglas, will also take part in tomorrow’s practice, steering Erebus Motorsport’s #9 Penrite Holden.
David Reynolds’ co-driver Craig Baird had been scheduled to run in the session before the team’s split with Aaren Russell saw the Kiwi move into the #4 entry for the weekend.
Previously announced co-driver for Russell, Shae Davies, will steer the now Hungry Jack’s backed #4 Holden in practice as planned.
