Jordan Boys gets first ever Super2 pole

Jordan Boys

Jordan Boys and Image Racing have got their first ever Armor All Pole Position in the Dunlop Super2 Series while Bryce Fullwood is well-placed to seal the title at Sandown.

Boys was denied by Fullwood in Qualifying for Race 1 a day earlier but will start Race 2 of Round 6 on the inside of the front row, with Eggleston Motorsport’s Jack Perkins alongside.

Fullwood was 0.0736s away from Boys’ pole time and was beaten by Perkins by only 0.0001s but is set to start from third in the #16 MW Motorsport Nissan Altima.

The Territorian can wrap up the series by finishing no worse than seventh in this afternoon’s 22-lap race, for which his nearest rival, Kurt Kostecki, qualified sixth.

Ash Walsh was at the top of the timing screen after the first runs with a 1:09.0200s in the #35 Matt Stone Racing VF Commodore, Boys (#49 VF Commodore) sat 0.0022s behind, while Fullwood was third, Justin Ruggier (#88 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore) fourth, and Will Brown (#38 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore) fifth after an early off.

Brown was first to make a serious impression when the latter runs started, jumping to first position with a 1:08.4770s, and was still more than a quarter of a second to the good as the rest crossed the control line again.

Drive all day with open pit lane access at Queensland Raceway: July 1st and 7th. Custom race cars only, low numbers, medical support, garages, and complete on-site facilities.

Tickford Racing’s Thomas Randle (#5 FGX Falcon) closed to 0.0528s behind Brown in the 15th and final minute before the chequered flag, an effort which relegated Perkins to third.

However, the 2015 Gold Coast 600 race winner then laid down a 1:08.4752s, and Fullwood followed him across the stripe in a time of 1:08.4753s.

Boys had been shuffled back to sixth by that point, when he set a 1:08.4017s to topple both Perkins and this year’s Super2 benchmark, Fullwood.

Randle, however, remained a threat of pinching pole until he pinched a brake coming through the esses complex and he remained fifth, one position behind where Brown ended up.

Kostecki (#55 VF Commodore) will join Randle on the third row, with the top 10 rounded out by Ruggier, Brenton Grove (#10 Triple Eight VF Commodore), Dylan O’Keeffe (#44 Garry Rogers Motorsport VF Commodore), and Matt Chahda (#18 Matt Chahda Motorsport FGX Falcon).

Walsh was 11th and yesterday’s first-time race winner, Tyler Everingham (#27 MW Motorsport Altima) 14th.

The second and final race of the weekend is scheduled for 1205 local time/AEDT.
