Kostecki wildcard Holden nearing completion

The Kostecki Brothers Racing Holden wildcard mid build

Kostecki Brothers Racing is edging closer to conducting a maiden test with its newly converted Pirtek Enduro Cup wildcard ZB Commodore.

The Super2 squad is in the process of transforming a Triple Eight built VF Commodore into the latest specification Holden to step up to the Supercars Championship for all three endurance events.

Brodie Kostecki has sacrificed his own Super2 program to enable the enduro wildcard he will share with cousin Jake Kostecki to happen.

The pair, alongside Jake’s brother Kurt Kostecki and the team’s only full-time employee, have carried out the build which is gathering momentum, with only the driveline and remaining panels to be fitted.

A maiden shakedown for the car is expected in the next three weeks at Norwell Motorplex on the Gold Coast, before a test day next month.

“We’re stoked with how the build has gone so far. Everything’s gone pretty smoothly so far, but I don’t really want to call it too early,” Brodie Kostecki told Speedcafe.com.

“It’s been a bit of a family effort though, everyone’s chipped in.

“It’s only really Kurt, Jake, myself, and also Andy, who’s the only full time employee that we have here at KBR, so it’s been a monster effort, across the last four weeks to get all this organised and make it all happen.

“We’re actually planning on going to get a shakedown approved.

“We’re trying to do that in the next three to four weeks to just make sure there’s no silly bugs or anything, so when we do plan our first test day, in about a month or so, there’s no issues or anything like that.”

Now the build is reaching its final stages Brodie Kostecki admits nerves and excitement levels are growing in the team ahead of the entry’s debut at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 10-13.

Last month it was confirmed the car would be backed by Boost Mobile for the Great Race.

“It’s definitely exciting putting the car together. It’s also a bit nerve-wracking at the same time I suppose,” Kostecki added.

“This car has to do 1000 kilometres, actually 1500 kilometres at its first event with practice and qualifying.

“It’s definitely a lot of added pressure throughout the week, trying to make sure you do everything to the highest possible standard that you know, but it’s definitely exciting and daunting.”

Kostecki Brothers Racing will be one of two wildcards at the Bathurst 1000 following confirmation Walkinshaw Andretti United will field a car for IndyCar stars Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe.
