Fans have voted Scott McLaughlin as Supercars’ most popular driver of the year.

The back-to-back Supercars champion has picked up the Supercars award voted on by fans for a third consecutive year with the honour previously dominated by Craig Lowndes.

McLaughlin’s triumph comes in a record breaking season hat has seen the Kiwi record 18 wins thus far, which is the most claimed by a single driver over a campaign. 

The New Zealander has also been at the centre of controversies after his Shell V-Power Racing was found to have breached rules twice during the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

“It’s a very cool award. Fans are the backbone of our sport and why we go racing,” said McLaughlin upon receiving the award. 

“I’m really proud to have a lot of support out there through thick and thin and proud to do it for them all.”

Meanwhile, Supercars has also confirmed that Penrite Racing has taken out the fan voted award for best presented team.

This season the squad has produced a series of impressive liveries notably its Kiss theme colour scheme and its JPS retro look for Sandown.  

“The team has done a wonderful job,” said team owner Betty Klimenko.

“They really deserve it because they went against everything that I said and it’s probably why they won the award!”
