Rising star Jack Miller secured pole position for the Moto3 German Grand Prix as he emerged on top in a rain affected session.
The Queenslander made the most of a period of dry running at the Sachsenring circuit to post a time before rain struck towards the end of the session.
Miller’s impressive 1.26.997s effort set early on proved pivotal in securing the pole position.
French rider Alexis Masbou trailed Miller by a tenth of a second with Alex Marquez completing the front row.
The late rain shower caught out Miller’s title rivals Efren Vazquez and Romano Fenati, with the pair qualifying in 17th and 25th positions respectively.
“We already had a good setup from yesterday (Friday), but today (Saturday) we changed some things,” said Red Bull KTM rider Miller.
“The results were very good and I am very happy.
“I am not completely satisfied with the soft tyre. I tried to make a good lap with it, and had planned to use the medium tyre in the last stint –because with the first one front end was suffering too much.
“This morning we also improved our times. I think I can still go faster, but I’m very happy with pole position.
“Looking ahead to the race tomorrow, we have to be smart and push hard.”
Miller heads into Sunday’s race with a seven point lead at the top of the championship standings.
