REGARDED as one of Australian speedway’s most competitive classes, the Modlites will this Saturday night be making their first 2023-24 season appearance at Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway.
A solid line up of 20 cars from NSW and Queensland are set to converge on Grafton Speedway for the third round of the Dondex Extreme Series. The form drivers heading into this latest Dondex Extreme Series round are going to be two Queensland-based racers, current NSW Champion Corey Stein and newcomer Ryan Silcock. Stein, who took out last season’s running of the NSW Title at Grafton Speedway, won the opening Dondex Series round and finished second in the most recent round, while Silcock has shown plenty of speed and by virtue of this form has finished the opening two rounds in third and second place respectively.
Aart from Stein and Silcock, fellow Queenslanders in the father-and-son pairing of Rodney and Mitch Pammenter, who finished second and third in last season’s NSW Title, former Australian Champions Terry Leerentveld and Sean Rose, Nathan Politch and local challenger Will Butler are also likely front-running contenders.
This Saturday night’s outing for the Modlites is set to be the first opportunity for drivers to get track time around Grafton Speedway in readiness for the upcoming Australian Modlites Title that is to be fought out at the 440-mentre track on March 29 and 30.
Sharing the headlining act with the Modlites at Grafton Speedway are the Late Models, which procedure up to 900 horsepower from their 410ci V8 engines and are rated as one of the world’s biggest classes of dirt track speedway, which was a class that appeared on one occasion last season at Grafton Speedway and it saw the win go the way of Queensland-based visitor Carter Armstrong, and they are excited about making their first appearance of the season this Saturday night at the venue. Despite a small field of nominated cars, the drivers are focused on producing plenty of close and exciting racing from the beginning of the night through until the end.
Making up an action-packed night of racing at Grafton Speedway are going to be the following support classes in the RSA Street Stockers, SSA Production Sedans, SSA Street Stocks, Stock Cars and SSA Junior Sedans.
