Mostert locks in Dunlop Series and V8 endurance drives

Ford Performance Racing’s rising star Chaz Mostert is in for a busy 2013 despite missing out on progressing into the V8 Supercars Championship.

The 20-year-old will switch to Matthew White Motorsport for a third full-time season in V8 Supercars’ second-tier Dunlop Series, as well as making his debut in the V8 Supercars Championship’s Sandown and Bathurst endurance races with FPR.

Mostert will drive the FPR-built chassis that Mark Winterbottom campaigned last year, which MWR will run alongside its other ex-FPR cars for Dale Wood and Morgan Haber.

Mostert’s entry will enjoy naming rights backing from Sherrin Rentals.

FPR has elected against fielded a Dunlop Series entry of its own this season after expanding its V8 Supercars Championship operation to four cars.

Mostert finished third behind Scott McLaughlin and Nick Percat in the 2012 Dunlop Series standings, and says he’s learned from the mistakes that cost him the points needed to take out the series.

“Matty has proven that his team can do a really good job in the DVS (Development Series) against a lot of the main game teams, so I’m very happy to be aligned with MWM,” Mostert told Speedcafe.com prior to his first test with the team at Winton today.

“My goal this year is not to repeat any of the mistakes from last season. Last year I was fighting a couple of guys that had that one extra year of experience in these big, heavy V8 Supercars and the pressure got a little bit intense for me towards the end of the season.

“Coming back for another year later I can see where I made all of my mistakes and I’m hoping to put together a much more consistent campaign.”

FPR is yet to confirm which car Mostert will co-drive in the V8 Supercars enduros. It is expected that he’ll either share the #6 Pepsi Max Ford with Will Davison or the #18 Jeld-Wen Ford with Alex Davison, with the decision likely to be influenced by the team’s plans for Finn Mika Salo.
