The crash occurred during an MSCA Super Sprint Championship round at the famous Melbourne race track with the competitor reportedly hitting a pole.
Emergency services were called, however the driver died at the scene.
The driver is yet to be publicly identified.
Victoria Police confirmed the tragic death in a statement.
“Police responded to a fatal single vehicle crash in Calder Park today,” the statement read.
“Emergency services were called to reports of a car crashing into a pole at a race track on the Calder Freeway about 10:05am.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, sadly died at the scene.
“Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
“WorkSafe has been notified.”
