Magnussen will drive the #91 Chevrolet Camaro when NASCAR makes its debut at the Coronado Naval Base in San Diego.
The Danish driver will be backed by technology company Qualcomm.
Magnussen made his F1 debut in 2014 with McLaren, finishing second in his first start at the Australian Grand Prix.
He made 185 starts across multiple teams, including McLaren and Renault – though the lion’s share of his career was with Haas from 2017 to 2024.
“I’m incredibly excited and honoured to have the opportunity to compete in NASCAR,” said Magnussen.
“What Justin Marks and Trackhouse have done with PROJECT91 is unique.
“To provide drivers from outside of the NASCAR world with a chance to compete at this level. I’m proud to have this opportunity.
“I’ve already spent time with the team in North Carolina – meeting everyone, doing the seat fit, going through pit stop procedures and all the details that come with preparing for a NASCAR weekend.
“They’re an awesome group of people, incredibly dedicated, and just as excited about this debut as I am. I really can’t wait to get to San Diego and experience it all for the first time.”

After his F1 career ended, Magnussen plied his trade in sports car racing with BMW and its Hypercar program.
“I’m thrilled to be able to bring back Project91 again this year, especially at San Diego,” said Marks.
“We were waiting for the right opportunity with the right partner and driver to bring this Project91 entry to fruition.
“Qualcomm is a worldwide brand, and Kevin Magnussen is a global driver, and both are elements we look for when it comes to running Project91.”
Project91 famously launched Shane van Gisbergen’s stock car career when he won on debut on the streets of Chicago.
Project91 alumni include Kimi Raikkonen and Helio Castroneves.
It will be just the sixth start for Project91. Raikkonen was the first Project91 beneficiary, beginning at Watkins Glen in 2022 before a return at Circuit of the Americas in 2023.
Van Gisbergen made starts at Chicago and Indianapolis in 2023 while Castroneves is the most recent Project91 participant in 2025 at Daytona.
“Project91 is about pushing boundaries – bringing world-class drivers, bold ideas, and cutting-edge technology into one of the most competitive arenas in racing,” said Don McGuire, Qualcomm Incorporated executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
“With Kevin Magnussen behind the wheel and Trackhouse leading the charge, we’re excited to showcase how Qualcomm’s AI-powered innovations can help teams unlock real-time insights and elevate performance on race day.
“From our hometown of San Diego to the global stage, this is a powerful example of how advanced computing and connectivity are transforming the future of motorsports.”
The NASCAR Cup Series race at San Diego is slated for June 22 at 6am AEST.
