Van Gisbergen was the fourth driver on track in qualifying and lay down a 18.859s in the #71 Chevrolet Silverado.
Pole position went to Layne Riggs in the #34 Front Row Motorsports Ford F150 with a 18.502s to his name.
It’s the sixth career pole position for Riggs, who leads Kaden Honeycutt in the standings.
“We’ve done everything we could do so far,” said Riggs.
“I did not think that was going to be a pole lap. In our mock run we weren’t good. I was really tight, like 10 out of 10 tight.
“I told [my crew chief] I was like, I really don’t know how much to free it up here. We just took a stab at it and just from that run I was still like a three or four tight.

“I came in, I was like, that’ll probably be top 10. I didn’t feel good about it, but supposedly I got really lucky with the cloud.
“The team does a really good job. When we’re 80 percent of the way there on balance we still have a lot of speed.”
Carson Hocevar, the leader Spire Motorsports driver, will start second in the #77 Silverado.
The third of the Spire Motorsports trucks driven by Chase Elliott qualified sixth.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series FaithFest 250 at North Wilkesboro Speedway gets underway at 2:30am AEST on Sunday, July 19.
