Nick Foster has dominated the first race of Round 4 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship Queensland Raceway, taking pole position and victory in Race 1.
The Steeline Mygale driver used his local experience to lead home a Sonic Motor Racing 1-2-3 ahead of Matt Brabham and championship leader Cameron Waters.
The victory continues Foster’s run at the Queensland circuit, having won the Formula Ford round in 2010.
“The car was really good today, but I think all three of us were driving as close to limit as possible, which made it difficult to get a gap or to pass,” Foster said.
“I was really strong out of turn two throughout the race and that just gave me a bit of breathing room into turn three, which is where the majority of the passing is done. Matt [Brabham] closed the gap towards the end of the lap, but fortunately it wasn’t enough to get through.
“I’m really happy with the result, I’ve got a lot of family and friends here, so to win in front of them feels even better. We’ve got two races tomorrow, so hopefully I can hold my advantage and take the round win, but it’s not going to be easy to hold off Cam [Waters] and Matt.”
Jack LeBrocq was fourth after a great battle with Liam Sager, who was the first Spectrum in fifth, while Shae Davies, Daniel Erickson, Garry Jacobson, Jordan Lloyd and Mathew Hart rounded out the top 10.
Round 4 of the series continues with Races 2 and 3 tomorrow at Queensland Raceway. See below an audio interview with Foster.
