Nissan Motorsport has taken inspiration from the 1960s for its special retro look for Simona de Silvestro’s entry at the Rabble.Club Sandown 500.
The Harvey Norman backed Nissan Altima will swap its regular looks for a bold white design featuring a red stripe that harks back to Nissan factory liveries from the 1960s.
De Silvestro will drive one of two retro looking Nissans with Rick Kelly set to drive the other which will be revealed tomorrow morning.
It is also the latest in suite of retro liveries revealed by Supercars teams as the championship looks to celebrate the past at Sandown.
“The car looks really cool,” said de Silvestro.
“Sandown is a lot of fun with the retro theme. Itʼs a very serious weekend with a lot of points on offer, but itʼs also something thatʼs a bit different. A racing stripe is always worth a few tenths, for sure.”
This weekend marks the start of de Silvestro’s second Pirtek Enduro Cup campaign which will see the Swiss driver joined by Super2 race winner Alex Rullo.
The Western Australian teenager has been driving a MW Motorsport Altima which should assist his preparation for the enduros.
“Alex has shown really good pace in Super2. Heʼs won a race and he really knows his way around the car,” added de Silvestro.
“This is my second enduro campaign, so I know what to expect and am excited about the challenge ahead.”
De Silvestro heads into Sandown having missed the team’s pre-enduro test day at Winton last week due to personal reasons.
The 30-year-old currently sits 22nd in the championship standings.
