Suzuki MotoGP team manager Davide Brivio has hinted Honda’s Dani Pedrosa could be a potential target to lead the manufacturer’s return to motorcycle grand prix racing next year.

The former Yamaha boss, in charge of Suzuki’s return to MotoGP after a two year hiatus, revealed this week that the team are searching for a top level rider to lead the 2015 campaign.

Spaniard Pedrosa, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been linked to one of the vacant Suzuki rides as the marque continues it’s preparations for next season’s rebirth.

Brivio claims the team are yet to hold any talks with any prospective riders but could not confirm or deny any interest in signing the Spanish three-time MotoGP World championship runner-up.

“Regarding Pedrosa we would have to find out if he is interested,” Brivio told MotoGP.com

“We are currently not negotiating with anyone. Perhaps things will start to get moving in the coming weeks.

“Obviously we are talking, considering our various options, making contact with agents to see what the riders’ contract situations are and weighing up the interest in riding our bike.”

“It will be hard to get a top rider and we want the very strongest possible riders, but we will have to see who is up for the challenge and who wants to ride for us. It’s difficult to state names at this stage.”

However, Brivio confirmed Suzuki test rider Randy de Puniet will be on the list of candidates for a 2015 ride.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez dominated second practice at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit ahead of the this weekend’s Grand Prix of Argentina. The reigning world champion set a best time of 1.39.313s which was 1.08s quicker than nearest rival Pedrosa.

Aleix Espargaro was third fastest ahead of LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl and Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso.
