The police department handling the horrific crash involving NASCAR champion Tony Stewart which killed Kevin Ward jr at a speedway meeting in upstate New York has completed its investigation.
Although no findings were forthcoming, the Ontario County (New York) sheriff’s office said notification on what action will be taken regarding the investigation will be made next week.
The accident on August 9 at a low-key speedway meeting at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York state, saw Stewart’s car hit Ward jr who had alighted from his car after crashing into the fence with fatal consequences during a caution period.
“The entire thorough investigation, including a forensic video enhancement recently received from the New York State Police Laboratory in Albany, has been submitted to the Office of the Ontario County District Attorney for review,’‘ said Sheriff Philip Povero in prepared statement.
“The District Attorney’s Office, which has been meeting throughout the investigative process with members of the Sheriff’s Office, will make a statement late next week advising what action will be taken regarding the investigation.’’
The police declined on making any further statements public.
Stewart missed the following two NASCAR Sprint Cup races before he made his return at Atlanta.
