Mark Winterbottom is confident of a stronger Prodrive attack for Sydney Motorsport Park after the squad completed a diverse testing program at Winton.
The team took to the Victorian venue on Monday for its first test since February, looking to boost Winterbottom’s bid to topple the currently dominant Triple Eight Holdens in the title battle.
Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters had their cars to themselves for the day, while Chris Pither shared with his co-driver Richie Stanaway.
“The engineers put together a good program for us and we ran through some things that I think will really help,” said Winterbottom of the day.
“It was a full-on day, we started early and really only stopped for lunch in the middle of the day so there’s been a lot to run through but it’s all been really good stuff and I think we’ve made some progress for sure.
“We had a good set of tyres today which was a nice change as well.
“Usually our tyres aren’t that great so to be able to go out there and really put our progress to the test was great.
“I think it should be a lot better hopefully coming up to Eastern Creek.”
Although soft tyre life has been the obvious weakness of the Prodrive package across the season to date, team manager Chris O’Toole said that the team had a diverse array of areas to work on.
“We did a few different things across the day,” he said.
“We did a few qualifying simulations. That was one of the areas we wanted to work on so we’ve done that.
“We worked on the aero and did some aero runs and ran some different setups and what have you and that was good.
“We tried a couple of new parts on two of the cars and they seem to have improved our reliability.
“We worked on durability and a bit of tyre life as well but overall it was a really good day. It was really productive.”
