Red Bull is set to add the promotion of the World Rally Championship to its extensive global motorsport involvement.
The WRC has been without a promoter since the parent company of previous promoter North One Sport went into administration prior to the start of the 2012 season.
The FIA subsequently opened a tender to replace North One, with Red Bull Media House understood to have beaten television network Eurosport and a unnamed South African based bid to the deal.
Red Bull already has a heavy involvement in the WRC through its sponsorship of the championship’s benchmark squad the Citroen World Rally Team.
The news of Red Bull’s promotional deal comes amid speculation that current Citroen customer driver Nasser Al-Attiyah is on the verge of purchasing the Citroen factory team.
The rumours, fuelled by the French press, have been categorically denied by the squad’s principal Yves Matton.
Citroen driver Sebastian Loeb currently leads the 2012 World Rally Championship standings after eight of 13 rounds.
