Erebus Motorsport is extracting career best form from David Reynolds, according to team manager Barry Ryan.
Reynolds has produced a series of sparkling performances for the Melbourne operation, which has seen him regularly compete with the top teams on the Supercars grid.
The form has continued at this weekend's CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown with the 31-year-old qualifying fourth on Saturday before finishing eighth in the race.
Reynolds had been among the early race contenders before an electrical issue prompted a gearbox problem that hampered shifts from lap 8 onwards.
This coupled with a slow pit stop dropped him down the order.
Ryan believes Saturday's showing is proof the former Prodrive driver is delivering the best performances of his Supercars career.
Reynolds' resurgence has been aided by an increasingly fruitful relationship with former Walkinshaw engineer Alistair McVean, who has galvanised the squad's engineering department.
“He (David) has always been an exceptional driver. I think having the confidence in the car puts him to another level,” Ryan told Speedcafe.com.
“Having him believing in us has probably been the critical thing. Hopefully we can keep going from here.”
Ryan is confident the squad will fix the electrical gremlin on Reynolds' car ahead of today's 200km heat at Hidden Valley Raceway.
“It'll be fine. We'll find it and we'll replace everything we need to,” he added.
“The car was fine, he just couldn't change gear, it was jamming or not changing properly.
“We had a whole heap of sensors fail at the same time so it's obviously on the same circuit. He had warnings and stuff going everywhere, so he did well to manage it and finish eighth.
“I reckon we probably could have got fourth or fifth (if the electrical drama hadn't struck).
Since joining Erebus last year, Reynolds has settled into the team, prompting talk of an extension of his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
A deal is yet to be confirmed but discussions are well underway.
