Robert Kubica won every one of the eight stages on his European Rally Championship debut during the opening leg at the Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés.
Even with a late scare on the final 20.88km stage, when the Pole nudged a wall, the former F1 star finished the day 66 seconds ahead of Jan Kopecký.
“It's been a good day,” said Citroën driver Kubica.
“In the last stage there was a tight junction. I pulled the handbrake and touched with the rear a house. I had to reverse and lost 10 or 12 seconds. But it's been a nice day, perfect testing in different weather conditions. Now we just need to continue running at our pace.”
Luis Monzón was third quickest in his MINI with Craig Breen fourth, one place ahead of Peugeot Rally Academy team-mate Jérémi Ancian.
The rally concludes tomorrow.
