James Golding declared his Bathurst crash a case of “shit happens” as Garry Rogers Motorsport works to repair the damaged #34 Volvo.
The 20-year-old made high-speed contact with the left-hand wall at Reid Park during the closing stages of the day’s second practice session.
The accident came just weeks after Golding’s Supercars debut at Sandown ended with a heavy opening lap accident thanks to a tyre failure.
The team is currently working to repair the damage in the hope that James Moffat can complete laps towards the end of the day’s third and final session.
Golding, who is an apprentice mechanic with the team, is also helping on the repair.
“I just headed into the right-hander up there the same as every other lap,” Golding told Speedcafe.com of the accident.
“The rear slid out and once I was off-line it just dragged it into the wall on the left. I didn’t even get back to the throttle.
“It’s unfortunate but shit happens and there’s still plenty to go in the weekend.
“The car had been pretty good through there up to that point.
“We were just trying to get the last little bits out of it fine tuning.
“There were a few spots I was working on my driving and a few spots we needed to make the car better.”
Golding had topped this morning’s opening Dunlop Series practice before finding the fence in the Volvo.
Although appreciative of support from Moffat and the GRM crew, Golding shrugged off the rough start to his Supercars Championship career.
“Everyone tries to boost your confidence back up, but I’m not worried about it,” he said.
“I haven’t had one of these (crashes) that have been 100 percent my fault for a while now.
“It brings you back to earth a little bit but you’ve got to move on and concentrate on the next session.
“I’m looking forward to getting back out and trying to get the best result we can in both the Volvo and the Dunlop Series car.”
