The SP Tools Australian Kart Championship’s visit to Central Queensland will finish under lights on Saturday night in 2024 at the Emerald Kart Track during the first weekend of June.
The brand new track-lighting facilities being installed at the track will see it become one of the best lit motorsport facilities in the country.
An update to the five round Championship’s sporting regulations guarantees competitors 40% more practice time at each event.
Events will start on Thursdays with practice before an extended 20 minute practice session on Friday, followed by a six minute final practice then qualifying.
Saturday will feature heat racing only before Sunday rounds off the heats and the finals.
Organisers, Karting Australia, have outlawed ‘shakedown’ events in the leadup to the Championship rounds in an effort to cut costs to competitors and have also tightened up practice regulations to cut back on the amount of testing that had crept into the Championship from teams over recent years.
The 2024 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship takes in five rounds including two new venues – the recently extended Coffs Harbour Kart Club in the tourist hotspots’ sporting precinct and Oakleigh Kart Club in Victoria, which was extended in 2021. In addition to Emerald, the Championship will start in Bolivar, South Australia and also visit the Eastern Lions Kart Club in Seymour, Victoria.
