New South Welshman Ed Singleton emerged on top in both the round and the series points after a frantic Radical Australia Cup event at Phillip Island at the weekend.
In a weather affected Race 1, Singleton (MPA Projects SR3RS) finished second to the Tim Berryman/Jonathon Miles (Volvo Cars Australia SR3RS) entry after an extraordinary contest.
Having spun at the first corner, Berryman and Miles charged back into contention, leading by a comfortable 12 seconds at the completion of the 50 minute race despite the former suffering a second spin at MG corner.
While past and present Formula 3 drivers Barton Mawer (Radical Australia SR3RS) and Bryce Moore (Key Produce SR3) had battled for the lead early, Sue Hughes (Navybox SR3) emerged from the strategy game with third position, leading home Greg Smith/Bryon Smith (Radical Australia SR3RS) and Simon Haggarty (Haggarty Racing SR3).
Despite dry weather greeting competitors on Sunday, Race 2 was equally chaotic – beginning with a spin from Miles on the warm-up lap.
After the confusion of the pitstop cycle sorted itself out, Steve Shelley took second, followed by Mawer/Peter Opie, Simon Haggarty and Glyn Edis (Interior Developments SR3RS).
Singleton now leads the points standings after two rounds on 140 points from Opie (132), Berryman/Miles (118), Haggarty (99) and Edis (98).
Round 3 of the Radical Australia Cup will be run at Winton Motor Raceway on June 24-26 as part of the Shannons Nationals.
