Former Bathurst winner David ‘Skippy’ Parsons is looking at making a V8 Supercar comeback.
The 50-year-old Tasmanian, winner of the 1987 Bathurst 1000, has not competed at The Great Race since 2000, however, after trying his hand in support categories for the past few years – including Commodore Cup – Parsons wants to have another shot at Mountain glory.
Parsons is close to securing a deal to race in the Bathurst 12 Hour next year as a personal test to see if he can still make the grade.
If he feels comfortable, Parsons will be hunting for a return to V8 Supercars endurance racing.
“I certainly want to have a go in the endurance rounds,” he told Speedcafe.
“I’ll look at it for next year. I just love racing, and I want to give it another run, just for myself. I’m getting myself in trim, getting fit, and I wouldn’t mind having a run.
“Because I’ve been out for a while, I’m not burnt out. I’ve dabbled in little bits of motor racing, I’ve never totally got out of it, but I’d just to go have another run at it and see whether I’d be quick at it or not.
“I do miss it. I’m only 50 now. Russell Ingall is 45 and he’s doing an absolute fantastic job. It’s a lot harder now that what it used to be. You’ve got 29 cars all within seven tenths of a second, but if you live, eat and breathe the sport, you’ll do it.”
