STATS WEEK: Davison’s Grand Slam

Will Davison scored well at the big events in 2009

Will Davison scored well at the big events in 2009

With V8 Supercars Australia considering elevating four events to ‘grand slam’ type status in the future, its interesting to note that the four events that would make up the special award were not swept by any driver in 2009.

So in 2009 at least, Speedcafe.com.au’s special week of statistical know-how can report that the insurance company would have been safe and the $2million payout would have been unnecessary.

Toll Holden Racing Team’s Will Davison scored the most points at the four events mooted for a future V8 grand slam, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast and the season-ending Sydney Telstra 500.

All four events featured 500 kilometres or more of racing, given that the Surfers Paradise event was extended at late notice to four 150-kilometre journeys.

The big mover in this tally in Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Lee Holdsworth, who obviously likes to perform on the big stage and rises to fourth in the standings at the grand slam events.

Check back tomorrow for the next instalment of STATS WEEK – only on Speedcafe.com.au … the place to get your racing stats fix!
