VIP Petfoods Racing’s Steve Owen has set the fastest time in the opening practice session for the Coates Hire Ipswich 300.
Owen’s 1:10.80s best effort saw the former Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series winner 0.14s faster than fellow Queensland-based driver James Moffat.
Todd Kelly, Russell Ingall and David Reynolds rounded out the top five, while Mark Skaife was the fastest of the endurance co-drivers – taking Craig Lowndes’ TeamVodafone entry to sixth on the time sheets.
Twenty-four cars took part in the session, with Dale Wood, Michael Patrizi, Nick Percat, Andrew Jones, Luke Youlden, Greg Ritter, Craig Baird, Dean Canto, Marcus Marshall, Scott McLaughlin and Nathan Pretty all taking the opportunity to turn laps.
Practice 2 will take place at 12:20pm local time.
