Stone Brothers Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen took a break from his testing duties today at Queensland Raceway to observe a spectacular promotional stunt involving freestyle motorcross rider Matt Schubring.
Organised by mutual sponsor SP Tools, Schubring backflipped his way over the Stone Brothers Racing transporter which had been parked on Queensland Raceway’s drag strip especially for the occasion.
Van Gisbergen, who like many of the V8 Supercars drivers is a keen motorcross rider, said the stunts looked like fun.
“We’ve been trying to make this happen for a while now and so when I took Matt for a spin in my V8 Supercar at our ride day last week it clicked that our calendars were both free this week and that we’d have the truck out here for our test day so it finally all fell into place,” said van Gisbergen.
“Everyone would know that I’m pretty keen on my bikes and love belting around but Matt literally takes it to another level – I doubt Ross and Jimmy would let me have a shot at something like this but it would definitely be fun.”
All four Stone Brothers Racing Falcons are on track today at Queensland Raceway, with Fujitsu Series runner Scott McLaughlin joining the team’s SP Tools, IRWIN Tools and Lucky 7 backed entries.
Triple Eight Race Engineering and Paul Morris Motorsport are also at the venue with a full complement of Championship and Fujitsu Series cars, joined by two cars each from Jim Beam Racing and Triple F Racing, plus Jonathon Webb’s Mother Energy Drinks Racing Ford and Brett Stewart’s Interquip Racing Holden.
Both the V8 Supercars Championship and the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series will race at the Queensland venue over the upcoming August 19-21 weekend.
