HEADING into the summer months here in Australia, the weather isn’t going to be the only thing hotting up, with 2023-24 season continuing for the V8 Dirt Modifieds with the running of the two-night Super Dirt Series at Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway over the Christmas-New Year period.
In what will be the third running of the Super Dirt Series, Grafton Speedway promoter and V8 Dirt Modified team owner Mick Corbett is looking forward to the two-night race meeting on December 29 and 30 that is set to attract some of country’s best V8 Dirt Modified competitors.
“The goal of the Super Dirt Series from day one has been to showcase an annual marque event for V8 Dirt Modifieds at Grafton Speedway during the summer holiday period, and we are pleased to have achieved that and we are hoping that this season’s event is going to be bigger and better,” commented Mick Corbett.
“Northern NSW has been for the past three decades the hotbed for V8 Dirt Modified racing, and the Super Dirt Series has a unique format that promises exciting racing over the two nights and hopefully showcase the very best V8 Dirt Modified racing in the country.”
The Super Dirt Series, which has seen the past two events won in fine style by five-time Australian Champion Kevin Britten, is going to be complemented by the opening two rounds of the three-round Mr Modified Series at nearby Lismore Speedway over the Christmas-New Period on December 26 and January 6, so when it comes to the country’s best V8 Dirt Modified racing over the Christmas-New Year period, the northern NSW region is the place to be.
Elsewhere in the country, the month of December begins with some V8 Dirt Modified racing on both eastern and western sea borders, with the V8 Dirt Modifieds that were set to make their first 2023-24 season appearance at Moama’s Heartland Raceway on the NSW-Victorian border this Saturday night (December 2), but unfortunately, that race meeting has been cancelled. During the latest race meeting for the state, Wangaratta City Speedway earlier this month, it was Queensland visitor Zac MacDonald who impressively came away with the feature-race spoils. Meanwhile, over in Western Australia, the next race meeting for them is set to be the second Fast Friday race meeting of the season this Friday night (December 1) at the Perth Motorplex. The V8 Dirt Modifieds are set to make their second appearance of the season at the country’s premier speedway track. Recently, the V8 Dirt Modifieds had two race meetings on the one weekend, with Mark King taking out the opening Fast Friday Series round at the Perth Motorplex ahead of defending Western Australian Club Champion Kris Falconbridge in second and Greg Bodger in third. The next night at Moora Speedway, the V8 Dirt Modified feature race honours went the way of Greg Bodger who managed to outpace Cody Evans and Kris Falconbridge to the chequered flag.
