Supercars reveals Eseries schedule, broadcast details

The Supercars Eseries arena

Supercars has confirmed the schedule for its revamped Eseries which will be broadcast live on Fox Sports this year.

Following confirmation of the competition’s return in April, the championship has announced that its Gfinity Supercars Eseries will be contested over six rounds comprising 16 races with all the action televised through Fox Sports.

The competition will begin with the opening round held at Gfinity’s state-of-the-art Esports Arena in Sydney on September 24 while the remaining five rounds will see the sim racers compete remotely.

It has been confirmed that each round will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and streamed on Kayo Sports in a 1930-2130 time slot.

Fox Sports will also enter a team in the series, joining an anticipated array of teams fielded by current Supercars operations with Boost Mobile Racing already confirmed.

“Fox Sports is delighted to partner with Supercars to broadcast the Gfinity Supercars Eseries for Foxtel customers and Kayo Sports subscribers,” said Fox Sports General Manager Motorsport, James Harrison.

“The eseries is a great extension to our traditional coverage of Supercars and promises to bring some exciting racing via the iRacing platform. We are also thrilled a Fox Sports car will take its place on the virtual grid.”

Fourteen iconic circuits from around the world have been confirmed for the series including Monza, Suzuka, Mount Panorama, Laguna Seca, Nürburgring and Silverstone.

Five of the six rounds will consist of three sprint races with an exciting initiative also confirmed for Round 2.

Taking place in the same week as the actual Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, Round 2 will test the drivers in one single 250km virtual race around the legendary Mountain.

The final round of the series will be all-Australian, featuring virtual races at Oran Park, Phillip Island and Mount Panorama in the same week as the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship finale in Newcastle.

“The series has stepped up for 2019 and we are delighted to welcome the Fox Sports team to the competition and for the entire series to be broadcast live on Fox Sports,” said Supercars – General Manager Commercial Jamie Black.

“A spectacular opening round with a live studio audience in Sydney will kick off the schedule through to the finale, contested alongside the Supercars Championship decider on the streets of Newcastle.”

Supercars has also revealed details of the draft process that will be undertaken to fill the positions in the esports teams.

The draft will take place in early August as a three-stage process.

In stage one, aspiring drivers from the public will have the opportunity to set their best lap time on iRacing on Mount Panorama across a three-day period.

The fastest 16 will move through to stage two where they will go head to head in a series of races to determine a seeding order.

At stage three, teams wishing to select a driver from the draft, instead of appointing their own will have the opportunity to do so via a ballot system.

Public registration for the draft is open from July 8.
