Toyota 86 Racing Series
Cameron Hill claimed the opening Toyota 86 race of the weekend ahead of Aaron Seton at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Seton made a lightning start to rocket into the lead at the first turn before Hill found a way by on lap two to eventually skip clear at the front of proceedings.
The leading four all edged clear before Hill broke free of the chasing trio, leaving Seton to hold off Jimmy Vernon for second place while Tim Brook trailed the pair home in fourth.
Having been fastest in qualifying, Ben Grice was relegated to the back of the grid after failing post-qualifying scrutineering.
He quickly climbed up the order, passing 15 cars on the opening lap, to ultimately work his way back to tenth at the flag – a 23-place improvement on his starting spot.
Two races tomorrow will round out the weekend, Race 2 up at 0915 AEST/local time before the final 10-lap encounter at 1210.
Formula 4
Cameron Shields has converted pole position into victory in the opening Formula 4 race of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Shields resisted heavy pressure from Nick Rowe in the closing laps, the leading pair pulling clear of the Tyler Everingham in third – and setting a new lap record in the process.
Everingham claimed third after a clash saw Simon Fallon and Liam Lawson off the road at Turn 2 while battling for the final podium place.
An incident saw Zane Morse beached in the gravel late in the race as he attempted to pass Jordan Mazzaroli while Aaron Love and Harley Haber came together in the opening corner, though both were able to continue.
Formula 4 is back on track at 0915 tomorrow for Race 2 ahead of its third and final race at 1135.
Aussie Racing Cars
James Duckworth has converted pole position into a race win in Race 1 of Round 5.
Duckworth just managed to hold fellow front-row starter Kel Treseder at bay into the second lap before the Safety Car was called for a stricken Madison Dunston.
Dunston had gone around at Turn 1 as she attempted to avoid Adam Clark, who had also spun just ahead, and couldn’t restart her car.
Duckworth successfully negotiated the restart with what turned out to be two laps remaining as Jaie Robson passed Treseder into Turn 1.
Treseder returned the favour a lap later to reclaim second for good, with Robson finishing third and series leader Craig Woods fourth.
Round 5 will wrap up with three 10-lap races 0845, 1025, and 1600.
