Shane van Gisbergen brought out the red flag in Practice 3 following a heavy impact with the wall at The Dipper.
The reigning Supercars champion ran wide at The Dipper before the left rear of the #97 Commodore made significant contact with the concrete wall which fired him across the track.
Van Gisbergen’s crash was almost a carbon copy of the incident that befell Richard Muscat in the #34 Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodore during Practice 2.
Van Gisbergen, who was sitting third on the timesheets, emerged from the car under his own steam.
“As we know, it is pretty unforgiving up there. It was only a minor thing, the positive thing and the ironic thing is he was so happy with the car in this session, compared to the first session,” said team manager Mark Dutton.

“Obviously when you start getting your confidence, little mistakes can happen.
“We have the people here to fix it, so we are not too worried.
“We have not tuned that car too much in the first two sessions, hence we are trying to make up for lost time and these things happen. It is part of it.
“It is practice, you gotta push, find limits, you prefer not to rub the wall but it doesn’t look crazy bad, the bodywork.
“We have got the people, we brought our chief fabbie to Bathurst, because these things always happen.”
The session resumed with 28 minutes remaining.
