The Holden Racing Team was left to repair left-side damage to Garth Tander’s Commodore following a rough opening day for the #2 entry at Bathurst.
Tander’s accident on descent from Skyline in the final practice session was the latest in a group of crashes on a day when drivers complained of vague handling on a green Mount Panorama track.
The extent of the contact saw both the front and left corners of the #2 Commodore damaged, however the team said there had appeared to be no structural issues.
“At the right hander before The Dipper I turned in and the car just gripped up mega and I clipped the inside wall and it fired me straight onto the outside wall,” Tander told Speedcafe.com
“That was it. It was all over and done with pretty quickly.”
The accident followed separate shunts through the day for David Wall (DJR), Cameron Waters (Team Jeld-Wen) and Robert Dahlgren (GRM).
“The cars are sketchy and they are vague in the way the grip is being delivered,” Tander said.
“So making the car a bit more user friendly is what everyone is probably talking about but that is nothing to do with this one. It was my error.”
Tander’s co-driver Warren Luff had earlier missed out on the bulk of the co-driver practice session while the team fixed a driveline issue.
Luff managed just three flying laps in the car, having earlier seen his Carrera Cup practice cut short after two laps due to a red flag.
