Andrew Thompson has continued to dominate the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series action at the Sucrogen Townsville 400, taking pole position for this afternoon’s opening race.
The 23-year-old Monster Energy backed driver sat at the top of the times from the outset, before putting in back-to-back fastest laps in the final three minutes to cement the number one position.
Thompson’s 1:13.36s best saw him 0.68s clear of nearest rival Nick Percat (Coates Hire Walkinshaw Racing), whose fastest time also came in the final three minute flurry.
Jack Perkins (Supercheap Auto Sonic Motor Racing Services) recovered well from a practice crash yesterday to take third, ahead of Greg Murphy Racing’s Daniel Jilesen.
Marcus Zukanovic (ABC Towing Action Racing), David Russell (Jayco MWM), Paul Morris (Love Machine PMM), Scott McLaughlin (Fujitsu SBR), Rodney Jane (Bob Jane T-Marts Sonic Motor Racing Services) and Tim Blanchard (Jayco MWM) rounded out the top 10.
Former Fujitsu Series winner Andrew Jones brought out the red flags after making contact with the tyre barriers at Turn 11 just seven minutes into the session and will start 27th.
