Toll Holden Racing Team has a pretty simple game plan in 2010 – and it consists of ticking off two boxes.
The factory Holden team won last year’s V8 Supercars Team’s Championship, thanks to Will Davison and Garth Tander finishing second and third respectively in the driver’s title.
Team manager Rob Crawford told Speedcafe.com.au that 2010 is all about making sure both trophies are in his team’s possession at the end of the year.
“We’ve got two things to tick off this year – number one on the door, and maintain the number one spot in pit lane,” he said.
“I think we’ve got a fairly good chance this year. The team morale is high and we had a very good test at Winton before we came over here (to Abu Dhabi), so I can’t see any reason why we can’t achieve the goals that we’ve set out.
“We need to start the season off a lot more competitive than what we were at the start of the 2009 season, and maintain that the whole way through.”
In terms of team make-up, Toll HRT remains pretty steady, with the same drivers, engineers and team crew sticking with the outfit.
One of the only changes for the season is the switch of driver engineers. After five years with Tander, Matthew ‘Techo’ Nilsson moves to Davison’s #22 Commodore, while Alistar McVean will be the chief for Tander’s #2 entry.
Crawford sais that the initial switch has worked well.
“The boys are getting along really well,” he said.
“It has brought a new dynamic into the team, and everybody’s enjoying it at the moment and it seems to be working quite well. We’ll see how it all goes in the first couple of rounds.”
The first practice session kicks off at the Yas Marina today at 2.20pm Abu Dhabi time (9.20pm AEST).
