Teams will have more tyres to play with at this year’s L&H 500 and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The V8 Supercars Commission has voted to increase the number of pre-marked tyres that teams are allowed to take to each event from eight to 12, while the allocation of new tyres for Bathurst will grow from 28 to 32.

According to V8 Supercars, the decision has been made in order to ensure all co-drivers can be given adequate time on new tyres in practice, while the Bathurst tyre allocation more closely matches the number of pitstops required using the 85 percent Ethanol fuel.

TeamVodafone race engineer Jeromy Moore told Speedcafe.com that having an extra fresh set of tyres available will make little difference to his team’s plans for October’s 1000km event.

“Bathurst itself isn’t hard on tyres – we could run around there for 200-300km on one set and they’d still be pretty fresh,” Moore told Speedcafe.com.

“The long straights give the tyres a chance to cool and there are no real slow speed corners.

“So it’s not going to be a major difference for us. Maybe it is better for the guys who burn their tyres up more, but I don’t think we’ll see the change have a significant effect on the race.”
