Shane van Gisbergen will have a change of pace this Saturday, competing in a Formula First (Vee) single-seater at Manfeild, Palmerston North, New Zealand.
The Stone Brothers Racing driver will be the star attraction in the New Zealand Formula First Association’s annual season-ending one-hour race.
Van Gisbergen got his motorsport career start in the Volkswagen 1200cc Formula First class after winning the annual SpeedSport Scholarship in 2004, earning the Rookie of The Year title on his way to third place in the 2004/05 New Zealand Formula First championship.
Since then, he has raced Formula Fords, Toyota Racing Series single-seaters and V8 Supercars. He currently lies fourth overall in the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship after his maiden win at the ITM400 Hamilton event.
Since crossing the Tasman to compete the 21-year-old has always made a point of returning ‘home’ in May to support both the SpeedSport Scholarship and the Formula First championship, competing in the annual one-hour race when his schedule allows.
