This weekend’s annual Muscle Car Masters legends dinner will celebrate 25 years since the first major race meeting at Sydney Motorsport Park, the 1990 Nissan Sydney 500.
Original competitors Glenn Seton, Andrew Miedecke, Tony Longhurst and Charlie O’Brien will all share their memories of the event, which was won out by Larry Perkins and Tomas Mezera.
The result backed up victory for the Commodore VL in the Bathurst 1000 six weeks earlier, where the Holden Racing Team recorded an upset over the highly fancied Ford Sierras and new Nissan GT-R.
Like at Bathurst, the Jim Richards/Mark Skaife driven GT-R proved fast but fragile in the Sydney 500.
As seen in the below video, the pole-sitter lost its left-front wheel early in the race, before an engine problem eventually halted the duo’s charge after 51 laps.
To coincide with the 25th anniversary, a DVD of the full race has recently been released by Chevron Marketing Services.
