VIDEO: Injured Bowe in doubt for Darwin TCM round

John Bowe underwent checks at Holmesglen Hospital

John Bowe is hoping to be deemed fit to contest the next Touring Car Masters round in Darwin next month after suffering three broken ribs in a multi-car crash at Winton.

The reigning TCM champion is recovering from the injuries at his Victorian home but remains in pain following the nine-car pile-up on Sunday.

Bowe underwent a CT scan at Holmesglen Hospital on Monday which confirmed that there were no further injuries.

The two-time Bathurst 1000 winner has been in consultation with Supercars medical delegate Dr Carl Le, who has advised that an appearance at Darwin from June 14-16 is unlikely.

Work is already underway to repair Bowe’s damaged Gary O’Brien prepared Holden SL/R 5000 Torana.

The 63-year-old will however miss this weekend’s Winton Historics meeting, where he was expected to race Joe Calleja’s March F1 car.

“They (Doctors) say six weeks (is the prognosis),” Bowe told Speedcafe.com.

“I’ve been consulting with Dr Carl and he says everyone is different, but I hope to race in Darwin, so we will try and get the car ready for that.

“Unlike Supercars, they are not built in kit form, hence it is very complicated repair.

“I’m upset about the whole thing, there is damage to lots of cars and it is bad for the category.”
