WAU working to assist Eaton’s Super2 dream

Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) would be keen to assist Abbie Eaton’s plans to race in Super2 next year following an impressive maiden Supercar test at Winton.

The British racing driver conducted her maiden Supercar test with the team in a Super2 specification VF Commodore at the Victorian circuit.

Eaton, famous for her role as test driver on Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, is keen to move to Australia to forge a career in Supercars and is focussed on securing a deal to race in Super2.

The 26-year-old joined Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion Jaxon Evans at the test where the pair logged a combined 120 laps.

Walkinshaw Andretti United co-team principal Bruce Stewart is hopeful Eaton chooses to race with the team in 2019.

The squad doesn’t currently run a Super2 program but co-owner Ryan Walkinshaw told Speedcafe.com that it could expand into the series in the future.

“With the development of Walkinshaw Andretti United, we see the opportunity to nurture young talent for not only here, but also our links abroad,” said Stewart.

“We would love for Abbie take the step into Super2 with us next year. Now, it’s about finding the right partner to make that happen.

“We are hopeful that we can assist Abbie in finding the support she requires to make her dream come true.”

“For Abbie, it’s a really exciting time to be involved, as we watch the next female star emerge in the sport,” added co-team principal Mathew Nilsson.

“She did a fantastic job yesterday, proving her unquestionable ability. She got her head around the car very quickly, including the brake pressure modulation process, and made significant progress throughout the day.

Eaton admitted the Supercar test lived up to expectations and was pleased with the progress made throughout the day.

She will now head to Queensland for a test behind the wheel of a Matt Stone Racing Ford Falcon at Queensland Raceway next Tuesday.
