Webber’s convincing Spanish Grand Prix win

The start of the Spanish Grand Prix

Australian driver Mark Webber has taken his most convincing Formula One victory of his career by dominating the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Red Bull Racing made the perfect start from pole position and led every lap of the race (bar the pit stop shuffles).

It was by far Webber’s most dominant performance in his nine Grand Prix seasons.

The win has moved him from eighth to fourth in the world championship standings.

Home town hero Fernando Alonso finished second in his Ferrari ahead of Webber’s Red Bull team-mate Sebaastian Vettel.

Vettel ran a comfortable second for the first part of the race but lost his spot to McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton after the first pit stop. With only a handful laps to run, Vettel’s car developed a problem in the front end of the car and was forced to pit, dropping him down to fourth. But his fourth became third when the front left hand tyre blew on Hamilton’s car.

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher finished fourth – his best for the year – ahead of championship leader Jenson Button (McLaren), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Adrian Sutil (Force India), Robert Kubica (Renault), Rubens Barrichello (Williams) and Jamie Alguersuari (Toro Rosso).
