There has been much interest triggered by the inaugural running of the Pirtek Enduro Cup.
Encompassing the three shared driver races, Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast, the race for the Cup will be decided on the unforgiving streets of the Surfers Paradise at the weekend.
The unofficial ‘championship within a championship', the Enduro Cup, remains a tight affair following the initial legs.
Jamie Whincup and partner Paul Dumbrell were prevented from back-to-back wins at Bathurst by a small margin by Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards who completed 1000km in race record time.
That result left Whincup and Dumbrell, the Sandown winners in September, leading the Enduro Cup on 576 points, 42 clear of the second Red Bull Holden of Craig Lowndes and Warren Luff with Winterbottom and Richards third 72 points behind the leaders.
With a maximum of 300 points to be distributed (150 in each of the 300km races), mathematically there are 12 teams in with a shout at the Cup.
David Reynolds and Dean Canto and Russell Ingall and Ryan Briscoe both sit on 276 points in 11th and 12th.
Which combination do you think will take home the spoils?
