Hayek to contest remaining Aus F4 rounds

Harry Hayek will contest the remaining rounds of the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship beginning at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

The 18-year-old made a return to the series at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this month following a stint in British F4.

Initially expected to be a one-off drive, Hayek has brokered a deal with Team BRM to compete in the remaining three rounds at Ipswich, Sandown and the Gold Coast.

After finishing fourth in the inaugural F4 championship last year, Hayek joined British F4 squad Jamun Racing, but was left without a drive after three rounds when the team encountered financial difficulties.

The New South Wales driver is glad to return to the cockpit as he assesses his future pathway in the sport.

“We are very grateful for the support to help me stay on grid for 2016 and compete in the remaining rounds of the Australian F4 championship,” Hayek told Speedcafe.com.

“Right now we are taking it race by race, accessing our options for next year. Whether we decide to head back to Europe in single seaters or make a tin top debut here is unknown.

“We are in need of financial support, like many other drivers and I’m currently talking to a few organisations to make that happen. However, nothing has been confirmed.

“Right now I’m just enjoying my time in the car as you never know what can happen.

“I’m grateful for all opportunities and I make sure I grab them with two hands.

“My friends and family keep telling me that more opportunities will rise to the surface, and that hard work pays off.

“I just have to just keep my head down and keep chipping away, because slowly but surely I’ll get there.”

Hayek’s inclusion will see 10 cars line up for the fourth round of the championship.

Will Brown holds a 21 point lead at the top of the standings heading into this weekend.
