Marco Andretti has set the fastest lap in Practice 1 for the Indianapolis 500 while Fernando Alonso was 19th quickest.
Andretti clocked a 39.7636s lap (226.338mph, 364.256km/h) midway through the first, four-hour open practice session in his Andretti Autosports Honda.
Scott Dixon was second-fastest in his Chip Ganassi Honda, while Ed Carpenter led the Chevrolets in his eponymous team in third.
Will Power was the quickest of the Team Penske Chevrolet drivers in seventh, while 2016 Indianapolis 500 champion Alex Rossi was 13th for Andretti Herta Honda.
Alonso set the fastest lap during the the two-hour rookie orientation/refresher session, before improving during the day to score 19th in the open session.
Jack Harvey hit the wall at relatively low speed due to a steering failure in his Andretti Autosport Honda, while Graham Rahal’s Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda appeared to blow an engine in the final hour.
Practice continues each day through to Friday.
