Jack Miller has been left angered by traffic which he felt cost him the chance to secure pole position for his home round at Phillip Island.
The Townsville teenager will start Sunday’s race from eighth on the grid after what turned out to be a frustrating Moto3 qualifying session for the rising star.
Miller ended the session gesticulating to his fellow riders having been baulked by traffic on his penultimate lap, while his title rival Alex Marquez scooped pole position.
“It was a real big shame,” said an angry Miller, who is 25 points adrift of Marquez with just three races remaining.
“The second-last lap was an extremely fast lap, but our lap time depends on the exit from the last corner because the finish line is at the end of the straight, and someone destroyed my lap.
“In the last corner I got no drive like I should, and ended up eighth.”
Miller decided to abort his final lap in protest with a host of riders following in his slipstream after traffic hampered his previous effort.
The 19-year-old, who is set to join LCR Honda in MotoGP next year, described the antics of his fellow riders as “stupid” predicting similar actions will cause an accident in the future.
“I don’t see the point of completing a lap to help out the idiots that destroyed my lap,” he added.
“It was a joke. You see the traffic coming up on the last corner, it was stupid. It’s unsafe, it’s just a joke.
“The stupidity is getting worse race by race, they need to try to do something before somebody really does get hurt.”
Elsewhere, wildcard rider Remy Gardner, the son of former world champion Wayne Gardner, qualified in 24th spot while South Australia’s Olly Simpson ended the session in 33rd position.
In Moto2, Esteve Rabat remained the man to beat as he secured pole position from Johann Zarco and Mika Kallio.
Australia’s Ant West will line up in 25th spot ahead of fellow countrymen Aidan Wagner and Max Croker, who finished 31st and 34th respectively.
